FINAL WORKSHOP OF THE “CLEAN WATER & ZERO WASTE SCHOOL MODEL” INITIATIVE
TOWARDS A SUSTAINABLE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT FOR STUDENTS IN MOUNTAINOUS AREAS
📍 On March 17, 2025, at Phieng Luong Semi-Boarding Primary and Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities, Bac Me District, Ha Giang Province, the Center for Supporting Green Development (GreenHub), in collaboration with the Bac Me District People’s Committee and Phieng Luong Primary & Secondary School, organized the Final Workshop of the “Clean Water & Zero Waste School Model” initiative, with sponsorship from Dow Chemical Vietnam Co., Ltd.

During the event, participants reviewed the results achieved by the initiative, shared practical experiences, and launched educational materials on clean water and waste management. Activities also included the inauguration of a learning playground, hands-on training on waste sorting and clean water use, and a joint campaign with the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Phieng Luong Commune and the school to conduct community communication, school clean-ups, and waste collection and sorting at public spaces.
The workshop was not only an opportunity to reflect on the journey so far but also to open pathways for scaling up the model, raising community awareness about environmental protection, and promoting sustainable education.

✨ A Journey of Positive Change
The project was launched in October 2024, with major funding from Dow Chemical Vietnam, aiming to raise awareness and improve sanitation conditions, clean water access, and waste management in schools.
After six months of implementation, the initiative has achieved several notable results:
✅ Co-designed educational materials and visual teaching tools on the themes of Clean Water and Zero Waste Schools together with teachers, helping students access knowledge in engaging and practical ways.
✅ Training sessions and extracurricular activities involving nearly 400 teachers and students, equipping them with skills in waste sorting, clean water use, and environmental protection practices.
✅ Volunteers from across the country joined hands to create 143 m² of educational murals about clean water and plastic waste, and to build a learning playground integrated with environmental education activities.
✅ Improved school facilities, including a new school gate at the Phieng Luong satellite campus and upgraded water tap systems at the main campus in Phieng Day village, creating a safer and more welcoming learning environment.
These achievements not only help students develop stronger environmental awareness but also strengthen their capacity to care for their personal health in the face of climate change and environmental pollution. At the same time, the model promotes community participation and encourages sustainable management of water resources and waste.
✨ GreenHub hopes to expand this initiative to more areas, providing students in mountainous regions with access to better learning environments.
💚 Join us in spreading the “Clean Water & Zero Waste School” model to create a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable educational environment!
