On April 24, 2026, GreenHub organized a consultation workshop to launch the Zero Waste School Network, bringing together representatives from the Department of Education and Training of Đắk Lắk Province, authorities of Tuy Hoa, Phu Yen, and Binh Kien wards, as well as school leaders and teachers across the area.

♻️ As waste generation continues to rise, the question is no longer just “how do we manage waste?” but “where do we begin to change behaviors?” Building on the results of the Zero Waste School Program implemented by GreenHub in recent years, experience shows that schools, while not the largest sources of waste, are among the most effective spaces for shaping habits. Practices such as waste separation and reducing single-use plastics, when consistently applied in schools, can extend far beyond the classroom to families and communities.

📌 Previous models have demonstrated clear potential. However, they also reveal a common challenge: when implemented in isolation at individual schools, it is difficult to sustain impact and scale effectively.

🤝 In response, the initiative now focuses on establishing a Zero Waste School Network across Tuy Hoa, Phu Yen, and Binh Kien wards, with key directions to:
• Connect schools within the same locality
• Standardize implementation approaches
• Link school-based activities with the local waste management system
• Gradually build mechanisms for monitoring, evaluation, and scaling

🗣️ Group discussions were a central part of the workshop. Participants, organized by ward, reflected on their current practices and focused on:
• Challenges in reducing plastic use and implementing waste separation
• Actions that can be initiated immediately
• Support needed in terms of training, infrastructure, and coordination

🚀 These insights will be consolidated by GreenHub to refine the implementation plan and guide collaboration with each locality in the next phase.

🌱 The Zero Waste School Network is therefore not just an environmental initiative within schools, it represents a more systemic approach, where behavior change is closely linked with institutional coordination and long-term implementation.

Change can start from schools and go much further.
