 Three Year Journey of Phu Yen Zero Waste – From Policy to Practice


 

Over the course of nearly three years, the “Reducing Plastic Waste through Zero Waste in Phu Yen province” work package in Phu Yen has made a significant impact—from provincial-level policy development to on-the-ground implementation in communities, schools, traditional markets, and business establishments.

The initiative not only transformed consumption behaviors but also inspired and promoted a strong Zero Waste lifestyle throughout local communities, actively engaging government agencies, businesses, and residents alike to collectively build a cleaner and more sustainable Phu Yen.


💡 Key Highlights:

  • ✅ 4 policies developed (including plans, guidelines, and regulations)

  • ✅ 203,148 kg of waste diverted

  • ✅ 26,675 direct beneficiaries

  • ✅ 908,136 indirect beneficiaries

  • ✅ 86 partner organizations engaged

  • ✅ Over 10,000 plastic bags reduced per month at Ward 7 Market alone
