These unpredictable weather conditions were among the risks the organizing team had to prepare for and face throughout the campaign.

“DUA BEACH” – NOT JUST ABOUT COCONUTS

The Our Ocean Is Not Home for Plastic campaign took place during the seasonal shift in Phu Yen, when changing weather patterns driven by climate change often bring unexpected rain and storms. This posed a constant concern and challenge for the organizing team.

Dua Beach, located in Dong Hoa District, was chosen as the first clean-up site of the campaign. With the hope that “a smooth beginning leads to a successful journey,” the organizers placed great expectations on favorable weather conditions. As a result, feelings of anticipation and anxiety accompanied the team from early morning until they returned home after completing the first activity.

Fortunately, the organizers’ hopes were rewarded. Under cool weather and gentle sunshine before the storm, the team successfully cleaned 348 meters of Dua Beach shoreline, collecting over one ton of waste. Thanks to the favorable weather, despite having only 26 volunteers and organizing staff, the group achieved impressive results and captured many memorable and beautiful moments together.

The Our Ocean Is Not Home for Plastic campaign is part of the “Accelerating Efforts to Reduce Ocean Plastic in Viet Nam” project, implemented by GreenHub with funding support from Ocean Conservancy.
