With the goal of empowerment, our work focused on the following key issues:

  • Raising awareness of gender equality and challenges within the waste management and recycling system, highlighting practical approaches to improve gender sensitivity and responsiveness, and demonstrating the potential impacts of such approaches.

  • Creating and scaling up innovative solutions to challenges in the waste management and recycling system, while empowering women and girls by recognizing them as key agents, thereby increasing their access to and control over resources.

  • Creating opportunities for civil society organizations—especially those representing waste workers and advocating for women’s rights—to influence decision-making in the waste management and recycling system.
