Turning a waste hotspot into Binh An recycled playground at Hoa Cuong Nam, Hai Chau, Da Nang

The residential zones of Da Nang city have a backlog of waste hotspots where waste is inadequately gathered and collected. This exists in the Binh An 1 area, worsens pollution, spreads waste and is unattractive.

GreenHub, Hai Chau District Department of Natural Resources and Environment, and Hoa Cuong Nam Ward People’s Committee took the initiative to turn a waste hotspot into a recycled playground to facilitate communication and education on waste classification at source. The process of designing and constructing this playground received the attention of stakeholders, from local authorities to the community, mobilizing financial resources and support of many groups.

After a period of co-design and construction, the Binh An recycled playground was completed and officially opened on June 5, World Environment Day.

With recycled materials this playground will serve as both a space for children to play and for community activities to promote the reduction of waste.

At the launching ceremony, Binh An residential zone committed to maintaining and managing the playground effectively. Hoa Cuong Nam Ward People’s Committee also planned to replicate to other similar playgrounds.
