The award ceremony closes the first six months of the project “Local Solutions for Plastic Pollution” (LSPP) accompanying the Women’s Union and also marking the transformation of new activities in the future.

The contest took place in 3 months and achieved remarkable results:

  • 13 out of 13 wards of Bac Tu Liem district and the number of WU members participating is up to 20,000 people.
  • The amount of garbage collected in particular is ~38.5 tons, of which Plastic waste accounts for ~10.1 tons.
  • As a result, 13 wards including Co Nhue 1, Co Nhue 2, Dong Ngac, Duc Thang, Lien Mac, Phu Dien, Phuc Dien, Tay Tuu, Thuong Cat, Xuan Dinh, Xuan Tao, Thuy Phuong, Minh Khai all received the Excellence Award.

Not only stopping at collecting, the contest opened up opportunities for women in the Women’s Union to promote their creativity and ingenuity. From water bottles and boxes, the members decorated beautifully into plant pots, flower pots placed in school and city campuses, and plastic ropes were reused to knit shopping bag. By turning plastic waste into useful items, we hope to raise awareness for residents in the area.
