Trung Yen elementary school: training for rescuing weak plants and composting in MRF area

On February 14, 2023, Trung Yen Primary School (Cầu Giấy Dist., Hanoi) and the Centre for Supporting Green Development (GreenHub) collaborated to conduct a training session on plant care and composting in the MRF (Materials recovery facility) area.

The training session was guided by Ms. Vu Ha Thu, coordinator of ZHub, 15 4th grade students, the school administration and Swedish experts (what organization?) who observed the activities. In two groups, students participated in activities of Composting and Planting. The outcomes were that students now understand the steps to take care of plants in the school campus garden, as well as composting methods leading to improved composting results in the MRFArea.

However, after the Lunar New Year national holidays, several plants died due to a lack of water. The MRF area also proved to be inefficient. The training session allowed GreenHub to replenish and replace the plants, and at the same time instruct the school’s students on crop care as well as improving the results of composting in the school.

After the training, GreenHub handed over the implementation kits and guiding techniques to the school. The school will now be responsible for managing and preserving the equipment for future activities.

Trung Yen School has also been very active in carrying out environmental protection activities through the launch of the restriction of “Single-Use Plastic” initiative; communicating environmental protection ideas and importantly, introduced school regulations to change the behavior of teachers and students. The school is also one of members of the “ZHub Alliance for Zero Waste and More” Schools.
