On the afternoon of September 12, 2022, with the approval of the Hoi An City People's Committee, the Center for Sustainable Development and Promotion (BUS), in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Information of Hoi An City, organized a seminar titled "Introduction to the Green and Healthy Tourism Seminar for Small and Medium Accommodation Businesses, Promoting Green Tourism Practices, and Reducing Plastic in Hoi An City."
With the support of the Green Development Support Center (GreenHub) and the participation of over 20 small and medium-sized accommodation businesses in Hoi An, along with 40 students attending online from Da Nang University of Economics and Da Nang University of Education, the seminar presented a multi-level model—ranging from basic to advanced—for businesses to exchange and discuss.
During the discussion session, businesses expressed the challenges and obstacles they faced when implementing the model. While most business owners showed great interest and support, they acknowledged the need for time, expert guidance, and capacity-building efforts in communication to effectively persuade tourists and implement suitable alternative solutions tailored to their business scale.
With the support and attentiveness of local authorities, along with technical and advisory solutions from experts and consulting organizations, there is hope that the green and sustainable tourism model will be further expanded and promoted in the future, moving towards Hoi An as a green tourism destination.
This activity is part of the "Reducing Plastic Waste Pollution with Local Solutions" (LSPP) project, funded by USAID under the "Vietnam Local Activities for Environmental Health Project", implemented by GreenHub in collaboration with three partners (ISPONRE, HUPH-VOHUN, and GIMASYS).
