On the morning of December 5, at Khối Vận Hall, the Cần Giờ District Women's Union and the GreenHub Center for Green Development Support organized the Summary and Award Ceremony of the contest "Cần Giờ Women Joining Hands to Build a Circular Economy Model for Plastic Waste 2023."
The event was attended by Ms. Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Thúy, Chairwoman of the Cần Giờ District Women's Union; Ms. Nguyễn Thị Thanh Vân, Deputy Director of GreenHub; representatives from the District Department of Natural Resources and Environment; GreenHub officials; along with the standing committee, staff, and members of the Women's Union from various communes and towns.
According to the report on the results of the contest, over the three months of competition, participating units proposed numerous models and solutions that met the scoring criteria. The contest successfully engaged 5,902 households of Women’s Union members and local residents, collecting over 4,000 kg of various types of waste. The revenue from sorting and selling recyclable waste to scrap collectors amounted to over 6 million VND, which was used to cook and distribute 250 free meals to elderly individuals in need, the homeless, and lottery ticket sellers. Additionally, more than 100 upcycled products were created from collected waste. Creative approaches included reusing plastic bottles and cartons for growing flowers and plants; transforming old newspapers and used wedding invitations into decorative household items; turning empty milk cartons into children’s toys; and repurposing plastic spoons into night lamps. Moreover, trained households practiced making dishwashing liquid from fruit peels and natural ingredients at home, creating fragrant and effective cleaning products that helped reduce household expenses and minimize environmental waste.
With the motto "Small Actions, Big Impact," the contest contributed to environmental protection and supported the Women’s Union's social welfare and charity initiatives, bringing meaningful humanitarian values.
