HAPPINESS SHOP - A PLACE OF CONNECTING LOVE FOR THE DISABLED

Hội An, a city famous for its ancient charm and grace, captivates visitors with its rich cultural and historical beauty. The booming tourism industry here greatly contributes to the local economy, but at the same time, it also brings about the heavy burden of daily waste.

Yet, in Cẩm Nam Ward, Hội An, few would expect that a group of women with disabilities is making a significant impact in reducing daily waste. With the support of the GreenHub Center for Green Development, the Center for Community Integration Research & Support (CORMIS), the Hội An Department of Natural Resources & Environment, the Women's Union of Cẩm Nam Ward, and the Hội An Environment Club (S.E.A Club), a recycling-based livelihood model led by these women has taken its first steps, promising great potential.

The group consists of about ten women, all of whom have disabilities. However, their physical limitations do not stop them from working—nor do they stop them from protecting the environment. Using fabric scraps from garment production and plastic waste, they learn from one another and skillfully craft useful recycled products for daily life. These products are not only stylish and practical but also environmentally friendly.

These extraordinary women call their club the "Happiness Shop" because they themselves are truly happy. They find joy in doing meaningful work despite their disabilities, in easing their worries about livelihoods, and in having a strong support system. Within this space, every recycled item is made with love and dedication—not only for one another but also for the community and the environment.

This video was created by the Hội An Environment Club (S.E.A Club) with the collaboration of the Hội An Department of Natural Resources & Environment and the Green Development Support Center (GreenHub), as part of the "Reducing Plastic Pollution with Local Solutions" (LSPP) project.

The project is funded by USAID under the "Vietnam Local Activities for Environmental Health" program, implemented by GreenHub in partnership with three other organizations (ISPONRE, HUPH-VOHUN, GIMASYS).
