Project "No waste collectors left behind during the Covid-19 pandemic"

The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, followed by a long period of social distancing, has caused many challenges for individuals, organizations, and communities, especially for those who work as scrap collectors (also known as scrap collectors), making it even more difficult and arduous. With the desire to support the recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic for this group of informal female waste collectors in 2 communes of Hai Phong, GreenHub officially launched the project "No Waste Collectors Left Behind During the Covid-19 Pandemic"

The project is funded by the International Relief Funds (tentatively translated: International Relief Fund) initiated by the Federal Foreign Office of Germany and the Goethe Institute since 2020, to deal with the impact of the pandemic on cultural and social organizations abroad. The project will be implemented from September 2021 to February 2022 in 2 communes of Tu Son and Ngu Phuc, Hai Phong city.

Follow the activities of connecting, improving and developing skills for informal women waste collectors in Hai Phong with GreenHub, towards a greener Vietnam and leaving no one behind!

General objective:

The project supports GreenHub in implementing post-Covid-19 recovery activities for informal women waste collectors in 02 communes of Hai Phong. The idea of ​​the project is to pilot increasing access and creative work for poor women informal waste collectors (scrap groups/scrap collectors) in the context of Covid-19.

Specific objectives:

The project aims to develop and apply 01 online application platform and communication tools to support the activities of informal labor groups in the context of the pandemic. The project will pilot training and skill development, contributing to increasing income for waste collectors in 2 communes of Tu Son and Ngu Phuc, Hai Phong city.

Expected results

  • The group of women waste collectors participating in the project has improved communication and online working skills through group communication tools, technical support, health advice and improved waste management guidance.
  • Thanks to the fact that individual waste collectors do not only work individually but can connect and enhance information exchange, thereby helping to improve and promote waste collection and classification in two communes of Hai Phong city.
  • The results of the project will be the foundation for future replication with other waste collectors in Hai Phong.
