According to a report by Eunomia, an average of 77% of aluminum cans are collected and recycled in Viet Nam. While this figure is encouraging, a significant amount of waste remains untreated. Can Tho City aim to collect 100% of urban household waste by 2030 and is working to raise awareness about waste classification. Students are influential pioneers in changing community behavior and promoting waste classification and recycling from school to community with the support of organizations like GreenHub and businesses like TBC-Ball Beverage Can Vietnam (TBC BALL).
GreenHub recently implemented the "Promoting zero-waste practices from schools to communities in Can Tho" project with financial support from TBC BALL Vietnam from 10/2024. The project aims include:
- - Enhance students' knowledge and responsibility at school and home about waste classification, including recycling aluminum cans.
- - Create an inspiring Zero-waste learning environment, with experiential activities to promote the practice of sorting, collecting and recycling.
Project activities were implemented in Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City, focusing on To Hien Thanh Primary School and the neighbor community. The activities involved the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Can Tho City, the Department of Education of Ninh Kieu District, the People's Committee of Xuan Khanh Ward, An Phu Ward and relevant stakeholders in Can Tho.
