[RECAP] Zero Waste School Model at Lâm Động Kindergarten, Hoàng Lâm Ward, Thủy Nguyên City, Hải Phòng
On March 31, the Zero Waste and More School Program (ZHub) under GreenHub, in collaboration with Lâm Động Kindergarten, successfully organized the “Six-Month Partnership Celebration”, marking several positive outcomes from the program.
The event welcomed 24 representatives from kindergartens across Thủy Nguyên City, 13 parents, along with more than 420 students and 38 teachers and staff members from the school.
At the ceremony, Ms. Lê Thị Thúy, Principal of Lâm Động Kindergarten, shared that the school has received support from multiple partners and valuable collaboration in environmental education for students during the 2024–2025 academic year.
Key achievements from the Zero Waste School model include:
-
38 school staff members (100%) and 20 core students received training on Zero Waste concepts, Vietnam’s waste classification regulations, and organic composting techniques.
-
100% of students and teachers practice waste sorting using two Nystic waste bins provided by GreenHub.
-
312 kg of organic waste per school year is composted into fertilizer and used directly for plants within the school campus.
-
15 environmental-themed murals (approximately 40 m²) were painted in areas such as stairways and the school garden, where students and parents frequently pass by.
-
One Zero Waste School Regulation has been officially issued and implemented at Lâm Động Kindergarten, encouraging 5R practices such as limiting balloons and single-use plastics, bringing personal water bottles, and carrying reusable containers when going out. These practices help motivate students, parents, and teachers to consistently reduce waste.
During the event, students also participated in hands-on recycling activities, transforming plastic waste, cardboard, paper, and other materials into creative toys. These activities helped children better understand the importance of responsible use of single-use plastics.
Ms. Nguyễn Thị Lý, Principal of Sao Mai Kindergarten in Thủy Nguyên City, Hải Phòng, expressed strong admiration for the Zero Waste School model at Lâm Động Kindergarten. According to her, the school is not only a joyful playground but also an ideal learning environment where children can learn, explore, and develop environmental awareness at the same time.
She hopes that the model, together with the ZHub program, will be expanded to all kindergartens across Thủy Nguyên City, spreading sustainable values to children from an early age.
The lessons and skills that children practice today will serve as an important foundation for shaping a future generation that is responsible toward the environment.
Let’s join ZHub in practicing Zero Waste and supporting children on their journey to become the green ambassadors of tomorrow!
