Đông Y Thiên Lương Herbal Garden Model: Remarkable Progress in Designing a Sustainable Forest Garden
AuthorAdministrator

Đông Y Thiên Lương was founded by lương y Đinh Thị Song Nga, Director of Nam Thăng Long Co., Ltd., a company specializing in the preparation and production of traditional herbal medicines in Hà Nam Province. As a practitioner dedicated to bringing high-quality herbal products to consumers and improving public health, Đông Y Thiên Lương always places itself in the position of its customers, prioritizing product quality above all else.

Over the past two years, Đông Y Thiên Lương has also begun implementing a forest garden project with the goal of restoring soil health, increasing the productivity of medicinal plants and organic vegetables, and moving toward safe and sustainable agriculture.

On May 20, 2022, after nearly two years of consulting and designing the forest garden for Đông Y Thiên Lương, sustainable agriculture experts from the GreenHub Center for Green Development Support visited the site and were pleasantly surprised by the rapid transformation of the garden. With the dedicated guidance of permaculture expert Dương Trần Anh Tuấn, along with Ms. Song Nga’s enthusiasm, passion, and commitment to providing clean agricultural products through sustainable practices, the project has made significant progress in developing a multifunctional forest garden system.

Ms. Song Nga shared:

“After receiving consultation from Mr. Tuấn, we found the methods extremely effective and intelligent. For example, we learned how to combine plants in a forest garden system—from pioneer species to main crops—in a way that works harmoniously.
We also understood how to design planting patterns so that plants can coexist based on their biological characteristics, such as photosynthesis processes and root systems. All of this helps create a forest garden model that closely mimics natural ecosystems.
In addition, Mr. Tuấn advised us on water retention methods so that water resources are conserved within the garden, as well as innovative livestock practices such as mobile chicken coops, which help control weeds and enrich soil nutrients.”

With her strong passion and readiness to take action for change, Ms. Song Nga also shared a message with farmers, gardeners, and those developing agricultural models:

“If farmers rely on unsustainable inputs such as pesticides and chemical fertilizers, it becomes difficult to maintain financial balance in managing farm operations.
However, by applying forest gardening methods, working with natural processes, and encouraging plant symbiosis, farmers can significantly reduce input costs while sustainably improving both the quality and productivity of their crops.”

Let’s follow the sustainable agriculture experts from GreenHub as they visit the Đông Y Thiên Lương forest garden to explore the remarkable transformation of this organic forest garden model and its mission to promote healthy and sustainable living values. 🌱
